Have you tried Beeswax Wraps yet? We love them and here’s why.
When it comes to reducing single use items in the kitchen, Beeswax Wraps are a great, hygienic and natural alternative to icky cling film and toxic tin foil.
They are so versatile and can be wrapped around most things, like cheese, cut off vegetables, fruit and cooked meats to store them and keep them fresh for longer, without taking up more space in the fridge.
They can be formed perfectly around vegetables and dishes with the warmth from your hands. If they do leave a little residue on your dishes don’t worry, this can be easily removed with warm soapy water when washing your dishes as normal.
You can buy Beeswax wraps in a variety of designs, they have a subtly sweet, slightly earthy smell and can feel a little tacky to the touch.
We highly recommend Beeswax wraps for use in the kitchen and in the fridge. We think they are great for keeping your cheese and cooked meats fresh, that half a cucumber and even half eaten apple from the kids.
They are super easy to care for if you follow a few simple rules. You cannot wash them in hot water, so a good rinse in clean, room temperature water does the trick. You should leave to air dry after washing. Do not expose to direct sunlight or hot temperatures as this can easily melt the wax. Do not use with raw meats and fish.
We do not recommend Beeswax wraps for lunchboxes as they can sometimes get a bit warm and taint the food they are protecting, but we have a great alternative for that with our Reusable Sandwich Bags.
What to do if you think you may have ruined your Beeswax Wraps.
Reviving your old or badly cared for wraps.
If you do think you may have damaged your wraps, you can refresh them easily by popping them on a baking paper sheet and heating them in the oven for around 30 seconds at around 160 degrees (full revival instructions on packet). If they come out shiny, you’re wraps are good to go. If your wraps are still dull and/or patchy you can buy a re-wax kit.
